Macrovision's proprietary SafeDisc software protects CD titles from unlicensed copying. To promote this product to game developers, they chose Creative-Ops. Our idea was to show how that although people realize it is illegal, it doesn't stop them from making copies of software. We introduced the casual copier as someone who could drastically reduce revenues.
The idea worked. The ad, which ran in Software Business and Game Developer immediately gained the attention of software developers and distributors, reinforcing Macrovision's leadership position, and creating heightened demand for SafeDisc.
